Professional Bike Fitting

web AJYou could spend £1000’s on a bike but the single most important factor for optimal performance and efficiency on the road is a professional bike fit. A professional fit will not only improve the comfort of your ride but also increase your performance, power and wattage.

There is lots written about bike fits but a proper fit comes down to the contact points (connection points) between the cyclist and their bike. These five connection points are: right and left foot, the pelvis and right and left hands. So the bike fit is less about the actual bike but has more to do with the saddle, handlebars, brake levers and hoods, stem and, most importantly, shoes, cleats and pedals

Our unique bike fitting system uses the scientific accuracy, authentic ride feel and custom technique of WattBike. The proprietary Polar View technology produces extremely accurate power measurements of the entire pedal stroke of both left and right leg while the rider is in motion on the bike

We use this data to develop a bespoke bike fit that is optimised for power, speed, injury prevention, and comfort.

Your fitting will take about 2 hours and cover the following;
Physiological check – including hamstring flexibility, leg length discrepancies, and feet pronation as these all have a bearing on your comfort on the bike.
Cleat fitting – incorrect cleat fitting accounts for the majority of knee soreness / pain, so cleat adjustment ensures your cycling shoes are properly aligned for your legs.
Adjustment –optimum positions for; saddle, handlebars, brake levers, hoods and stem.
You will need to bring your bike, cycling shoes, shorts and shirt. A towel and a drink would also be beneficial.

Personal Coaching Program

o2o1You don’t need to be a world class cyclist to train like one. Whether you are an elite level competitor, riding for fitness or entering your first cycling challenge, sticking to a program is so much easier when you have a coach to support you.

30 years of achieving optimal performance outcomes in some of the most unforgiving professional sports in the world has taught us that the best and most sustainable results are achieved through a comprehensive training plan that is more scientific, more data driven, with better nutrition, better sports science and better equipment.

Our Personal Coaching Program is managed exclusively by our Head Coach, a Level 3 British Cycling Coach. They use a variety of equipment to record, capture and analyse your efforts before designing a bespoke periodised training plan, structured around your availability and your lifestyle and family / work commitments.

Your training program will combine advanced techniques used by professional athletes with varied and challenging weekly training plans, feedback sessions and benchmark / evaluation tests to check your progress is achieving your goals.

ExhaustedYou will be personally supported throughout your coaching program. This will be a combination of regular one2one session and contact via text, phone, SKYPE and email as well as attendance at your events as agreed between you both. They will also monitor and offer you advice on nutrition, weight management and lifestyle adaption.

Our coaching program is open to riders of all abilities and levels. We are currently working with adaptive athletes, riders with Special Educational Needs, limited / restricted mobility cyclists and those with visual impairments through to elite level athletes and national and international level competitors.

Achieve new confidence in your abilities, hit your performance targets and take your fitness, cycling ability and self belief to levels that you may have never previously thought possible.

Roller Session

Rollers provide a valuable addition to the training armoury of any cyclist, regardless of experience. High cadence workouts on rollers are perfect for developing super-smooth, and efficient pedal stroke which is why Pro riders spend most of the winter working on rollers – it is what separates great riders from the merely good.

During a 1 hour session, you will be taught how to ride rollers like a professional cyclist, concentrating on key aspects of your pedal stroke to minimise dead spots at the top and bottom of each stroke and improving your balance balance, core stability and bike handling skills.

Strength and Conditioning

There are many reasons why you should add strength and conditioning into your training all year round. It has been shown to improve performance in both males and females across a range of endurance sports. High load strength training increases muscle building hormones that have also been shown to give the body a “feel good factor”

The order that the exercises, reps and loads etc increase or decrease must be gradual and controlled to ensure you improve safely and injury free. If you are planning for an event it is vital that your strength and conditioning reflects this so you are the appropriate weight / body shape for the event.

We will do an initial consultation with you and design a bespoke strength and conditioning plan for you with sessions that fit around your lifestyle and commitments. We have over 30 years of experience and are used to achieving pain free optimal performance outcomes in some of the most unforgiving professional sports in the world.

We will provide plans with on going assessments if required.

Lactate Threshold / Functional Threshold Power Test

Often referred to as “Anaerobic Threshold” as the intensity of your exercise increases, lactic acid is realised into muscles as hydrogen ions. Your breathing gets very rapid, you feel you need to stop and your muscles are starting to “burn”. Your speed or power when you are riding at this point is your lactate threshold.

We have designed a field test that re-creates these conditions, is very accurate and removes the need to pay hundreds of pounds for a laboratory test.

The session lasts for one hour and includes a Biomechanical assessment of your pedalling technique and riding style. We will give specific advice on how to maximise your efficiency and power through improved technique.

Aerobic Capacity Test

Aerobic Capacity (VO2max) is a measure of how much oxygen you use when exercising at sustained, maximal workload. How fast / how much power you can produce during this time is one of the best predictors of endurance performance.

We have designed a specific field test to measure your aerobic capacity.

The session lasts for one hour and includes a Biomechanical assessment of your pedalling technique and riding style. We can give specific advice on how to maximise your efficiency and power through improved technique.

Group Riding Sessions

with Level 3 British Cycling Coach

The Level 3 qualification is the highest coaching certification within British Cycling. You can book an exclusive group ride where you and a group of friends or work colleagues head out on a ride with an elite level British Cycling Coach and get their invaluable coaching advice and tips whilst enjoying the beauty of the countryside.

We also offer a range of corporate solutions – cycling events for your employees or clients. We regular organise track coaching days, trips across in UK and in France and Spain.

Watt Bike Session

RAMPThe Watt Bike is the most efficient fitness and fat loss machine on the planet. During the 60 minute session, we will assess your current riding style, paying particular attention to your technique, power output and pedalling efficiency.

During the session a range of data will be produced including;

  • VO2 Max
  • Power to weight ratio
  • Maximum Power output
  • Individual Leg power and efficiency

We can then design a program of training at the right intensity for you to achieve muscle growth, fat loss and improved fitness.

Our world class cycle coaches are trained, insured and supported through British Cycling. They all have a wealth of knowledge and experience, hold enhanced DBS certificates and are First Aid Trained. All of our coaches have at least two areas of additional expertise and many have been teaching adults and children for decades. Our cycle coaching team can be found coaching at events and in venues across Europe where they provide inclusive cycle coaching in Recreational Cycling, Road Racing, Time-Trial, Track, BMX, Cyclo-Cross, MTB and Disability Cycling. We provide cycle coaching to a huge of variety of groups and individuals ranging from adaptive athletes and riders with Special Educational Needs, limited / restricted mobility cyclists and those with visual impairments through to elite level athletes and national and international level competitors.
